La plaga Tux

Con la reciente actualización de mi equipo he vuelto a probar boinc, del que ya os hablé hace tiempo. Mi sorpresa ha sido cuando he visto que la última versión del programa permite utilizar la famosa tecnología de Nvidia CUDA que permite utilizar nuestras GPUs Nvidia para computación científica. Actualmente solo dos proyectos se aprovechan de esta característica (GPUgrid.net y SETI@home), pero es sorprendente ver como el uso de nuestras tarjetas gráficas incrementan el rendimiento de una sola CPU de 2 a 10 veces. Los pasos a seguir para ejecutar Boinc con la tecnología CUDA son los siguientes:

1. Comprobar si tu ordenador tiene una GPU capaz de ejecutar CUDA en el siguiente enlace.
2. Obtener la última versión de BOINC (la versión 6.4.5 o posteriores).
3. Obtener los últimos drivers de Nvidia (en Linux a partir de los 180.22).

With the recent update of my computer I have to try again boinc which I talked few time ago. I was surprised whe I saw that the latest version of the program allows you to use the famous Nvidia CUDA technology that enables out Nvidia GPUs for scintific computing. Currently only two projects are taking advantage of this feature (GPUgrid.net y SETI@home), but it is surprising to see how the use of out graphics cards to increase the performance from 2x to 10x times than the CPU-only version. The Boinc team urges BOINC participants to use them if possible. Just follow these instructions:

1. Check whether your computer has a CUDA-capable GPU
2. Get the latest BOINC software (Version 6.4.5 or later)
3. Get the latest NVIDIA driver (In linux 180.22 or later)
